Electrolysis is a method
of permanent hair removal which was made 100 years back in
the United States. During electrolysis, a needle is inserted
into a hair follicle and an electrical pulse is sent through
the needle. If this particular hair follicle is in the active
growth stage at the time of treatment, it will probably not
grow again. It means that your hair might grow back and that’s
why one needs many sittings to get a satisfactory result.
There are three basic types of electrolysis hair
removal:
- Galvanic - An electro-chemical current produces a bit
of lye.
- Thermolysis - A heat current is produced by and a radio
wave.
- Blend - An electro-chemical reaction is produced more
quickly by a combination of the above methods.
Hair can be removed from almost the entire body except from
the inside of areas like the nose, ears, or sometimes from
a mole.
Electrolysis has many benefits:
- It offers permanent hair removal if it is done properly
- Is the oldest way of removing hair so one can read lots
of literature and can see if there are after effects
- Can be very effective for small areas of hair. For example:
lip, chin, eyebrows, ears, bikini line, and underarms
Electrolysis: Considerations
- Requires a skilled and trained dermatologist otherwise
it can leave marks
- It takes a lot of time because each and every hair is
treated individually
- It can leave scares if not well done
- Takes a lot of time if done on big areas like backs
